Many rowing songs caught the public fancy in the mid/late 19th Century and early 20th. Songs were composed and sheet music published. Some were rowing events, some about famous rowing personalities, and some about rowing clubs. Some songs weren't about rowing at all but had a rowing image on the cover. A rowing image helped sell the music. Many images were very fancy.
