Kelley author of AMERICAN ROWING, was sports writer and editor on the New York Times’ staff. He was authored the rowing entry in the Encyclopedia Britannica. This book is a collection of 25 short stories about amateur sports and two are about rowing: "Thomas Doggett’s Coat and Badge", p. 206-213 and "Git Thar Stroke", p 387-396. __________________________ Ridgway, C. & Blyth, J. A FIGHTING CHANCE, 1967, J.B. Lippincott Co, Phila/NY. John Ridgway had responded to an ad in London placed by David Johnstone for an adventurous person to join him for an attempt to row across the Atlantic from the U.S. to Great Britain. Johnstone did not choose Ridgway for his partner, so Ridgway formed his own team make the attempt. This led to the successful crossing of Ridgway and Blyth at the same time as Johnstone and Hoare were crossing making it a race, (see Naydler/THE PENANCE WAY). P.S.
